Historically known as Swinton, Pendlebury & Clifton Care of the Elderly Association, more recently the Agnes Hopkins Community Centre has been serving the community since 1955.

The centre offers a welcoming environment for all members of the community.

The aim of the centre is to reduce isolation within the community, improve health and promote inclusion as well as friendship and interests for local community members This is achieved through the provision of the daily luncheon club, volunteering opportunities and a wide and varied range of accessible activities and social events that bring the community together.

Miss Agnes Hopkins lived and worked in the Swinton area as a school teacher and local councillor and also became Swinton’s 4th female mayor and the borough’s 1st Honorary Alderman.

Throughout her life she helped people in her community and her concern for older people who were isolated prompted her to form a place where people could meet and form new friendships.

In 1955 she founded the charity Care of the Elderly Association which was bequeathed to Swinton, Pendlebury and Clifton Care of the Elderly who now manage the day to day running of the charity The Centre has a management team and committee members who share a diverse set of skills and who are all local to the area, and as such have firsthand knowledge of the needs of our community. The Centre relies heavily on its dedicated team of volunteers for the smooth running of its services whom without the Centre would not survive.
